I have absolutely no idea what cappelletti and branca menta are, but the combination of these ingredients together won the prize for best drink in Memphis for this trip. The mezcal provides a nice smoky taste, while the apricot brings a freshness and sweetness to the drink. There are hints of springtime with the thyme, bitters and splash of sparkling water. All in all, this was an extremely refreshing and complex drink. I will definitely Uber the next time I come here – this drink demands that you have more!

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="308" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/top-3-three-memphis-edition/mimosa/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?fit=1224%2C1632&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1224,1632" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 6","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1492861085","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.15","iso":"250","shutter_speed":"0.033333333333333","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Mimosa" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-308" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?resize=789%2C1052&ssl=1" alt="" width="789" height="1052" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Mimosa.jpg?w=1224&ssl=1 1224w" sizes="(max-width: 789px) 100vw, 789px" />

100 oz. For that reason alone, this drink earned it’s place onto our top 3 by Three. Sometimes it pays off to live life with complete confidence. Add in a couple of olives for good measure, and we have a winner! I know that bloody marys are not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like them, run quickly to Automatic Slim’s and get the $2.50 special on the weekend. You heard that right. At that price, after you run there you will end up stumbling back out hours later. Remember – after the Three, Uber and Lyft are your next best friends. You’re welcome.

Devour:

Once again, in such a short visit, the Three had to maximize our culinary experiences, but we think you will be pleased by our offerings to your palate. The food was THAT good. We had a tossup between the crab cake, lobster ravioli, elk chop, short rib and the charcuterie plate. Needless to say, it’s amazing that a simple charcuterie plate could edge out the aforementioned dishes. Sometimes, letting superior ingredients speak for themselves in their simplest state is the best expression of gastronomic love. This was certainly the case here. We were served a platter filled with chicken & Newman Farms pork sausages, house made Muscovy duck prosciutto, brie, Beemster goat cheese and blueberry Stilton cheese, homemade pickles and fresh fruit. It didn’t matter what combination of ingredients we chose to put together. Each bite that we put together was a symphony of flavor and brought joy to our senses. Wow. Can you get any better than that? Apparently you can with the wonderful sporesine dish. Open edge tortellini with arugula based pesto, asparagus, green garlic, crab. This sounds rather simple, but Vivaldi himself couldn’t have crafted a better ode to spring and the seasons. The open edges of the tortellini are creatively engineered to grab a hold of more of the pesto. And let’s talk about the pesto! The base of the pesto is arugula – who knew that you could make pesto out of arugula?!? A trifecta of nuts – hazlenut, pine nut, almonds, blended perfectly into the arugula to make the brightest, freshest pesto dish that I have ever tasted. If you close your eyes, your taste buds will weave a tale of the spring harvest in your mouth and you will long for simpler times. For a duck dish to make it onto our list is nothing short of a miracle. Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen managed to do the near impossible. This duck came in two larger chunks (rather than thinly sliced) perched upon a bed of kale, turnips, sweet potatoes, sunchokes and fois gras. A Dutch farm in Pennsylvania was responsible for raising the duck and whatever they did to them resulted in pure taste. There was almost no gaminess, and the tender meat was perfectly spiced and was counterbalanced by a tangy mint and pistachio sauce. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but this was the best dish of the trip!

Remember to live the life that you CRAVE. The home of the blues and birthplace of rock and roll. A city synonymous with legendary greats – B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, and even *gasp* Justin Timberlake! This is a post industrial rivertown that once experienced a booming trade economy from the mighty Mississippi and a quick demise with the rise of railroads and the international highway system. The path of Three leads us to this land of grit and grind, and our bellies and ears were grateful for the experience. The Universe continues to conspire in our favor…

Indulge:

When people think about Memphis dining experiences, they usually think of barbeque. We were pleasantly surprised to discover some unique and tasty culinary destinations that revealed a more sophisticated side to this gritty city. We were equally ecstatic to discover some less refined, but just as satisfying tributes to our bellies and livers.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="314" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/memphis-crave/flight-restaurant-and-wine-bar/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?fit=1632%2C1224&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1632,1224" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 6","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1492813612","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.15","iso":"2000","shutter_speed":"0.066666666666667","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?fit=300%2C225&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?fit=1024%2C768&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-314" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?resize=788%2C591&ssl=1" alt="" width="788" height="591" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?resize=300%2C225&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Flight-Restaurant-and-Wine-Bar.jpg?w=1632&ssl=1 1632w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px" />

Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar:

Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar brings a unique restaurant concept to Memphis. In fact, we haven’t seen a restaurant like this ever before. Everyone has heard of flights of wine and beer before, but flights of food? Mind blown. Diners can order a flight of salads, flight of appetizers, flight of entrees, and even a flight of desserts. All the food was prepared impeccably, and this restaurant produced some of my favorite bites of food to date this year. Unfortunately, our service wasn’t up to par given the caliber of the food, but we suspect our waitress was fairly new to the job. Despite the poor service, the manager did do everything to make things right for us, including giving us a complimentary appetizer flight, charcuterie board and round of drinks on the house. This is a restaurant concept that needs to expand – we will certainly be back!

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-318" data-attachment-id="318" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/memphis-crave/automatic-slims-2/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?fit=668%2C446&ssl=1" data-orig-size="668,446" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="automatic slims" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?fit=300%2C200&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?fit=668%2C446&ssl=1" class="wp-image-318" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?resize=794%2C529&ssl=1" alt="" width="794" height="529" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?resize=300%2C200&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/automatic-slims-1.jpg?w=668&ssl=1 668w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px" />
© Thomas Hawk/Flickr

Automatic Slim’s:

The Three loves the idea of brunch. From upside down patty melts to fish and grits to red velvet pancakes, this is the type of comfort food that puts a smile on your face and induces a food coma almost immediately. This house, turned restaurant immediately puts you at ease. The ambiance was amazing, playing an inviting 70’s soul track mix complete with the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and of course some Marvin Gaye for good measure. Our host and waitress, Evan and Eva were so accommodating. It makes you realize that the service can completely change a dining experience. In our case this night, it was all for the better. Eva was one of the most knowledgeable and welcoming waitresses we have had – she took the time to detail our dishes and the history behind them. In some cases, her descriptions changed how we ordered and the results were fantastic. All of the food was impeccably crafted. You can tell that the chefs pride themselves on having the best ingredients and combining them in ways that show respect and showcase freshness. In fact, our experience convinced us to do a deeper review! Look out for a separate blog post dedicated just to Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen. We know. Why in the world would the Three go to a Bass Pro Shop when there are so many other things to see and do in Memphis? First, where else in the country can you find a huge glass pyramid in the middle of the country? In addition, what other city would turn the former home of the Memphis Grizzlies into a 535,000 square foot outdoors enthusiast store? How does one fill up that much space with outdoor equipment, you might ask? Naturally, you fill it with a hotel lodge, restaurant, swamp, alligator habitat, bowling alley, gun range, and 28 story elevator leading to an observation deck overlooking the city. Oh yeah, you can shop for outdoor stuff there too.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="328" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/memphis-crave/bb-kings/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?fit=1280%2C1280&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1280,1280" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.8","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 7","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1492909019","copyright":"","focal_length":"3.99","iso":"125","shutter_speed":"0.25","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="BB King’s – the CRAVE life" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?fit=300%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?fit=1024%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-328" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=868%2C868&ssl=1" alt="" width="868" height="868" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=768%2C768&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=1024%2C1024&ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=160%2C160&ssl=1 160w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?resize=320%2C320&ssl=1 320w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/BB-Kings.jpg?w=1280&ssl=1 1280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 868px) 100vw, 868px" />

Beale Street @ BB King’s Blues Club:

What trip to Memphis would be complete without the chance to listen to some live music and blues? And where better to do this than BB King’s Blues Club? We had the privilege of listening to the BB King’s All Star Band and they didn’t disappoint. The lead singer’s silky, yet gritty voice and the energy of the band took us to church. The combination of a trumpet, saxophone, drums and organ/piano is one that is hard to beat. It was fitting that they ended their set with a tribute to Stevie Wonder. Their extended rendition of Superstition got the entire place up out of their seats. Some folks had more rhythm than others, but the joy was universal

If you want to check out our gallery of photos, join our other social media feeds here:

Instagram: www.instagram.com/thecravelife

Facebook: www.facebook.com/thecravelife

Crave on,

Three

Coming Next: Top 3 by Three – food and drinks: Memphis edition

Coming Next: Deep Dive CRAVE: Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen restaurant review

The post Memphis CRAVE appeared first on the CRAVE life.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">303</post-id>

Top 3 by Three: Portland Edition

Three

3 by Three

departurepdx

eats

exploremore

Foodie

foodstagram

Hotel

hunnymilkpdx

igfood

igtravel

ilovetravel

instago

instagood

instatravel

Lifestyle

luclackitchen

passionpassport

Portland

the crave life

theCRAVElife

thenines

Three

Travel

Travelblogger

traveler

travelgram

traveller

travelstoke

wanderlust

welltravelled yum

Top 3 by Three: Portland Edition Every time the Three explore a new city, we want to bring you our list of our favorite food and drink experiences. This was a much more mature drink. If you don’t like a smoky taste, then this isn’t the drink for you. I happen to love the hint of smokiness in drinks like mezcal, so it was a perfect way to end my evening. The whisky is expertly blended with the tea infused vermouth to round out the flavors, and the drink finishes in your palate with the smoky taste of the Laphroaig and bitters. As a result, the beef would be cut into small dice shaped cubes and cooked in a wok. The constant shaking of the wok to cook the beef to perfection brought about the name “shaking beef”, or luc lac. This was the best bite of the trip, hands down. The beef tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and was seared with hennessey, beurre de france, garlic, black peppercorn. The lime and pepper dipping sauce just added to the revelation that was occurring in my tastebuds and brain. The path of Three leads us to this wonderfully quirky city in the middle of the rainy season where by a local’s account, there have been 9 days of sun since October. We had an amazing experience and I can’t wait to go back to see the city magically transform into an outdoor paradise when the sun decides to make its grand appearance. And so the Universe conspires…

Live

The Three have been a fan of the SPG brand of hotels for a while now, and our journey started with a stay at The Nines – a member of SPG’s Luxury Collection of boutique hotels. Housed in the former Meier and Frank Department Store building, The Nines pays homage and tribute to history by infusing the spirit of fashion and couture into every element of its décor. Once we got off of the elevator and enter the lobby, we were transported into a world of shoes, fabric, mannequins, and sensual lighting. In one word, we would describe this place as haute – pun intended.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="142" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/nines-lobby/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?fit=1512%2C2016&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1512,2016" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.8","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 7","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489898051","copyright":"","focal_length":"3.99","iso":"100","shutter_speed":"0.2","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Nines Lobby" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-142" title="Nines Lobby" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?resize=889%2C1185&ssl=1" alt="Nines Lobby" width="889" height="1185" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Lobby.jpg?w=1512&ssl=1 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 889px) 100vw, 889px" />

The intimate nature of the room continued the trend with hues of chocolate and turquoise whetting our appetite for a luxurious stay. The cloud like king sized bed had pillows that enveloped us and convinced us that peaceful slumber was right around the corner. While we didn’t stay in the hotel long, every night we woke up refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to experience life. What more could we ask for?

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="143" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/nines-bed/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?fit=3264%2C2448&ssl=1" data-orig-size="3264,2448" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 6","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489778602","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.15","iso":"125","shutter_speed":"0.033333333333333","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Nines Bed" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?fit=300%2C225&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?fit=1024%2C768&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-143" title="Nines Bed" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?resize=955%2C716&ssl=1" alt="Nines Bed" width="955" height="716" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?resize=300%2C225&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Nines-Bed.jpg?w=3000&ssl=1 3000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 955px) 100vw, 955px" />

Indulge

The Three love to eat. Period. Full stop. No journey is complete without a culinary experience. A great dining experience engages all of our senses, and our emotions are altered by a well-crafted cocktail, a perfectly executed dish, or by discovering a hidden gem. Our pathway led us to these highlights within a city that clearly deserves more of our time to explore in the future.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="30" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/departure-the-nines/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?fit=2448%2C3264&ssl=1" data-orig-size="2448,3264" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 6","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489779642","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.15","iso":"640","shutter_speed":"0.066666666666667","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Departure – the Nines" data-image-description="
living that rooftop life.
" data-image-caption="
Rooftop Deck at Departure
" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-30" title="Departure" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=886%2C1181&ssl=1" alt="Departure" width="886" height="1181" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=300%2C400&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=1600%2C2133&ssl=1 1600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?resize=250%2C333&ssl=1 250w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Departure-the-Nines.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 886px) 100vw, 886px" />

Departure: Great food? Check. Great drinks? Check. Great ambiance? Check. Departure took on a futuristic airline theme as we traveled down dimly lit purple corridors to get to the restaurant. As we headed down another corridor, we discovered a stunning rooftop deck with heat lamps that enveloped us with warmth for our bodies while the city view provided warmth for our souls. We had an amazing time and it’s clear why this is one of the more popular and trendy places in Portland.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="121" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/hunnymilk/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?fit=3264%2C2448&ssl=1" data-orig-size="3264,2448" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.2","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 6","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489830354","copyright":"","focal_length":"4.15","iso":"250","shutter_speed":"0.066666666666667","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="HunnyMilk" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="
Brunch Pop Up!
" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?fit=300%2C225&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?fit=1024%2C768&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-121" title="Hunnymilk" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?resize=887%2C665&ssl=1" alt="Hunnymilk" width="887" height="665" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?resize=300%2C225&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/HunnyMilk.jpg?w=3000&ssl=1 3000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 887px) 100vw, 887px" />

Hunnymilk: What in the world is a brunch pop up restaurant? We were a bit hesitant to go to a place that only existed on Saturdays and Sundays, but hey – Carpe Diem, right? The Universe set us on the path to discover this total gem of a restaurant. Their idea was unique; they essentially applied the price-fixe concept to brunch. For a set price, we ordered a drink, something sweet and something savory from the menu. The food was truly delicious, and beyond that, the owner was so humble, down to earth and sincere that you couldn’t help but want this place to succeed in a glorious way. Go to Hunnymilk and support local!

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="147" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/luc-lac/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?fit=3024%2C4032&ssl=1" data-orig-size="3024,4032" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.8","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 7","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489876561","copyright":"","focal_length":"3.99","iso":"100","shutter_speed":"0.25","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Luc Lac" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-147" title="Luc Lac" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?resize=891%2C1188&ssl=1" alt="Luc Lac" width="891" height="1188" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Luc-Lac.jpg?w=3000&ssl=1 3000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 891px) 100vw, 891px" />Luc Lac: This place was the last stop on our journey, but life sometimes has its way of saving the best for last. Maybe it was the company? The trendy décor and hip vibe? Perhaps it was that all the dishes that we shared and put in our mouths evoked the feeling togetherness, joy and friendship. In any case, if the Three ever crosses paths with Portland again, we will visit Luc Lac as old friends. On a totally different note, how ironic was it that our soundtrack for the evening included Drake and a sampling of trap music reminding us that every pathway eventually leads us back home to Atlanta and our daily lives?

Experience

The Three believe in collecting life experiences and using those experiences to travel on the path to our highest selves. Every city has a unique story to tell and our journey reflects but a single paragraph as we attempted to learn more about ourselves as we learned more about Portland.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="140" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/powell_ed/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?fit=2250%2C3000&ssl=1" data-orig-size="2250,3000" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.8","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 7","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489835653","copyright":"","focal_length":"3.99","iso":"50","shutter_speed":"0.066666666666667","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Powell’s – The CRAVE life" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-140" title="Powell's City of Books" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?resize=888%2C1184&ssl=1" alt="Powell's City of Books" width="888" height="1184" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Powell_Ed.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 888px) 100vw, 888px" />Powell’s City of Books: This is the largest new and used book store in the United States. Three floors and a full city block are filled with the smell of bound paper and ink and is teeming with adventurous readers looking to get lost in the imagination of an author’s mind and find connections with an author’s soul. In other words, a little slice of heaven. We were so grateful that in a world of instant gratification and immediate information, such a wonderful place could exist. Time slows down at Powell’s and the touch of a worn book, the crinkle of papers turned, and the smell of knowledge is something that should always be cherished.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="146" data-permalink="https://www.thecravelife.com/portland-crave/armory2/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?fit=3024%2C4032&ssl=1" data-orig-size="3024,4032" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.8","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 7","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1489874785","copyright":"","focal_length":"3.99","iso":"200","shutter_speed":"0.25","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Armory2" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?fit=225%2C300&ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&ssl=1" class="alignnone wp-image-146" title="Armory" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?resize=885%2C1180&ssl=1" alt="Armory" width="885" height="1180" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?resize=225%2C300&ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?w=2000&ssl=1 2000w, https://i0.wp.com/www.thecravelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Armory2.jpg?w=3000&ssl=1 3000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 885px) 100vw, 885px" />Portland Center Stage at The Armory: Just wow. We had the opportunity to see a performance of His Eye is on the Sparrow, a one woman biopic of the great Ethel Waters, headlined by the indomitable Maiesha McQueen. The theater itself is the largest theater company in Portland. When we walked into the Armory, soaring atriums greeted us and the modern contemporary architecture belied the historic nature of the building itself. We walked down to the lower level and entered the lower stage theater where we were taken back in time and transported to the early 1900s. Every seat in the house was amazing and everyone was treated to an emotional rollercoaster of a masterpiece. We were so impressed that we connected with Maiesha after the play to grab food and ask her about the life that she craves. Bottom line: Support the arts.
